Past Events

On February 12, 2026, the Spain chapter of Spanish Public Policy Network (SPPN) kicked off its 2026 agenda by participating in a reception of “EU-US Emerging Leaders”, organized by the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU.

The event brought together emerging leaders from the U.S. financial sector, along with representatives from leading organizations such as Aspen Institute España and Fulbright Network Spain, creating a space for dialogue aimed at strengthening professional ties and strategic cooperation across the Atlantic.

The initiative is part of a broader program promoted by the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU. and the European External Action Service, focused on reinforcing the international financial architecture and advancing transatlantic dialogue at a particularly significant moment for global cooperation.

As a network with a strong transatlantic identity, SPPN is grateful for the opportunity to take part in this gathering, and especially to Fernando Prieto, Mónica Otero Platas, and Néstor Báez for their leadership and commitment to strengthening relations between Europe and the United States.

The European Conference at Harvard University, held in February 2026 in Boston and attended by members of SPPN, brought together leading figures from the political, academic, and private sectors, reinforcing its role as a key platform for discussing Europe’s role in international cooperation, today’s geopolitical challenges, and culture as a pillar of stability in a rapidly changing global environment.

In our ES Policy blog, Victoria Suárez Rubio outlines four reasons why this conference matters and highlights its impact on the transatlantic conversation.

We are also proud to see Spanish professionals such as Tamara Rojo, Antón Leis García, and Adrián Vázquez Lázara contributing to important discussions on the future of Europe.

SPPN would also like to thank the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University for hosting speakers and attendees at an exclusive breakfast at the start of the conference, and congratulations to Aldara Falcó de la Cierva and Antonio Tintoré Vicent for the successful organization of this edition.

On January 30, 2026, the New York chapter of Spanish Public Policy Network (SPPN) hosted a conversation with Spain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Minister, Héctor Gómez Hernández, to discuss the priorities of Spain’s Permanent Mission and the current international context in which it operates.

The discussion offered an opportunity to reflect on the key challenges facing multilateralism, Spain’s role within the international system, and the geopolitical dynamics shaping today’s global agenda.

The gathering also served as an excellent opportunity to continue strengthening the community of Spanish institutions and professionals in New York who share a strong interest in public policy and social impact, reinforcing SPPN’s commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and professional connections.

SPPN would especially like to thank Antía García Blanco for her collaboration in organizing the event, as well as all attendees for contributing to such an engaging and thoughtful discussion.

On September 11, 2025, SPPN also organized a discussion in Madrid with the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU to analyze the challenges and opportunities in transatlantic relations within the current economic context.

The debate was moderated by Mateo García Silva (Vice-President of SPPN), and featured expert panelists Judith Arnal Martínez and Jose-Ignacio Torreblanca, along with valuable contributions from SPPN members.

Thank you to Fundación Consejo for making this discussion possible, and to everyone who attended!

On September 11, 2025, members of the Spanish Public Policy Network (SPPN) in New York attended a welcome reception and discussion hosted at the residence of the Consul General Marta de Blas Mayordomo. The event was an opportunity to greet Spaniards embarking on new professional roles or academic programs in the city.

We are incredibly grateful to the Consulate and to everyone who joined us. It’s exciting to see the growing interest in our network and the warm welcome we’re receiving in New York!

If you live in New York and would like to join our network, we’d love to have you.

On April 29, 2025, in New York City, we had the pleasure of meeting with Carlos Jiménez, Head of Spain’s Economic and Commercial Office, to discuss the impact of Trump-era tariffs on Spanish businesses. A truly insightful conversation.

On March 26, we co-hosted a roundtable at Georgetown University with the European Policy Organization to discuss U.S., China, and EU relations. Federico Steinberg and Ning Leng shared insights on global power shifts, contrasting innovation models, and the strategic challenge Europe faces in decarbonizing its economy. Thank you to all who joined us for this timely conversation!

On February 28, we had the pleasure of hosting Adrián Vázquez Lázara in Washington, D.C. for a thoughtful exchange on the rule of law in the U.S. and the early impact of the new Trump Administration on EU–U.S. relations. We even anticipated the diplomatic crisis that unfolded the next day during President Zelensky’s visit to the Oval Office. A timely and insightful conversation.

On October 23, several SPPN members attended the event “Geoeconomic Considerations: Future of the EU Agenda,” organized by the BMW Center for German and European Studies at Georgetown University, featuring Spain’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo.

The Minister addressed Europe’s most pressing geoeconomic challenges—from supply chain reconfiguration to the need to strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy. He also reflected on managing Spain’s economy through global crises and the country’s role in international forums like the G20.

We were proud to collaborate on this event, which offered our members a valuable opportunity to engage with a key figure in the Spanish government and expand their networks in a high-level international setting.
